Surgeon's tent at the Yorktown Victory Center Continental Army encampmentIn the eighteenth century the state of medical care and theory was undergoing a transition.  There was a new understanding of the human body, partly brought on by the discovery of blood circulation, that the body was seen more as a physical system like plumbing or pipes.
