NORTHROP GRUMMAN DONATES $300,000
TO JAMESTOWN-YORKTOWN FOUNDATION OUTREACH PROGRAMS

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.--Northrop Grumman has donated $300,000 to “The Campaign for Jamestown Settlement, 1607-2007” in support of outreach education programs presented in classrooms throughout Virginia by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, a state agency that operates Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center history museums.

“We want young people to discover the exciting story of Jamestown and the interactions that began to shape our nation,” said Sandra Evers-Manly, vice president, Corporate Responsibility, Northrop Grumman.  “This grant will enable the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation to bring new learning opportunities to classrooms across the Commonwealth.”

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Northrop Grumman is the largest non-retail employer in Virginia, with nearly 32,000 employees.  In Virginia, the company designs and builds nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines.  The company is also a leading provider of government information technology systems and mission-critical systems for the Department of Defense and the intelligence community, and delivers technical support services.

During the 2005-06 academic year, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation outreach programming involved 112,200 people and served 122 of Virginia’s 132 school districts.  The inquiry-based programs include hands-on activities and object analysis and correlate with the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Expanding outreach programs at appropriate grade levels is a goal of “The Campaign for Jamestown Settlement, 1607-2007,” which has reached 88 percent of its $24.2-million goal.  Gifts and grants to the campaign also support artifact acquisition and conservation, new exhibit features, special exhibitions, and endowment and annual funds to ensure future excellence.  For more information, call (757) 253-4139 or visit
