WILLIAMSBURG, Va., August 19, 2010 – A $100,000 grant from James City County will support interpretive programming and special events at Jamestown Settlement, a museum of 17th-century Virginia, and enhancements to the “historyisfun.org” website operated by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, the Virginia state agency that administers Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center, a museum of the American Revolution.
The grant will be used for interpretive materials and programming at Jamestown Settlement’s re-created Powhatan Indian village, 1607 ships and 1610-14 fort and riverfront discovery area, and for museum special events such as “Military Through the Ages” in March, “Jamestown Day” in May, “Foods and Feasts of Colonial Virginia” in November and “A Colonial Christmas” in December. The grant also will fund enhancements to the historyisfun.org site, featuring information about exhibits and special programs at Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center, online ticketing, links to other area attractions, and curriculum materials relating to the themes of the two museums.
