JAMESTOWN-YORKTOWN FOUNDATION STAFF, VOLUNTEERS HONORED FOR ACHIEVEMENT, SERVICE


WILLIAMSBURG, Va., June 25, 2012 – Three staff members of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, the state agency that operates Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center history museums, received meritorious service awards at a June 5 event that also recognized 61 employees for reaching service milestones and 128 individuals for commitment to the Foundation’s volunteer program.

Senior Sales and Promotions Manager Joan A. Heikens of Norfolk was honored as 2011 Employee of the Year. Museum Program Assistant Margaret M. Montgomery of Williamsburg was named 2011 Gold Customer Service Award recipient, and Museum Historical Interpreter Carol A. Wiers of Williamsburg received the 2011 Silver Customer Service Award. 

Twenty-four full-time employees were recognized for achieving state service milestones during the past year.  Media Relations Manager Deborah L. Padgett of Newport News was honored for 30 years of state service. Interpretive Site Manager Robert H. Lanier of Gloucester and Museum Historical Interpreter Stephen G. Martin of Williamsburg each were recognized for 25 years of state service. Housekeeper Senior James H. Walker of Williamsburg was recognized for 20 years of service.

Fifteen-year service awards were presented to Major Gifts Program Manager Dana M. Dowling, Assistant Education Officer Karen Y. Norako and Capital Projects Administrator Michael S. Shuflat, all of Williamsburg.

Ten-year service awards were presented to Electronic Exhibits Technician Johannes J. Heuvel, Gift Shop Manager Charlene A. Houck, Museum Historical Lead Interpreter Stephen D. Phillips and Maintenance Technician Anthony L. Steele, all of Williamsburg; Safety & Security Manager Raymond T. Hoyle III of Toano; Museum Historical Interpreter Lynn E. Williams of Yorktown; Museum Historical Interpreter Howard D. Sherman of Gloucester; Housekeeper Senior Joyce A. Davis and Administrative Assistant Rossalyn W. Hampton, both of Newport News; Assistant Director of Development for Annual Giving Christina H. Dominguez of Poquoson; and Outreach Education Instructor Samuel T. McGowan of Shacklefords. Six full-time employees received five-year service awards.         

Three individuals received awards for 15 years of part-time service to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation:  Courier Russell B. Carlton and Museum Program Assistant Margaret K. Soulen, both of Williamsburg, and Museum Program Assistant Martha D. Graham of Yorktown.

Awards for 10 years of part-time service went to Gift Shop Clerk Shelley A. Delehanty, Museum Program Assistant Patricia A. Hood and Telefunder Annette C. Knoepfler, all of Williamsburg, and Gift Shop Clerk Senior Gisele M. Fortin of Newport News.  Thirty part-time employees were recognized for five years of state service.

A total of 128 volunteers who contributed more than 100 hours of service in 2011, including 44 who reached cumulative service milestones, were recognized. Among them were Bill Blair of Gloucester for attaining 10,500 hours of cumulative service; John Robinson of Hampton for 7,000 hours; James Magill Jr. of Williamsburg and Doug Lindeman of New Bern, N.C., for 6,500 hours; Frank McGuirk of Williamsburg for 5,500 hours; Bob Nichols of Yorktown for 4,500 hours; Fred Blystone of Williamsburg for 4,000 hours; Jack Kirchner, Steve Link, Karen Peifer and Chuck Reusing, all of Williamsburg, for 3,500 hours; and Dick Turner and Rich Watkins, both of Williamsburg, for 3,000 hours.  Serving in all facets of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s operation, from greeting museum visitors to serving as crew on the Jamestown Settlement ships, nearly 1,000 volunteers provided 62,624 hours of service hours in 2011.  For more information about the volunteer program, call (757) 253-4034.
