The 400th anniversary of America's first permanent English colony, founded in Virginia in 1607, was commemorated through a series of events and programs that began in 2006 and continued into 2008. Jamestown 2007, a state planning organization established as the result of 1996 Virginia General Assembly action, partnered with state and federal entities and Virginia communities in coordinating anniversary efforts.
